AICM represents around 70 major foreign investments in the chemical industry of China, including sectors such as manufacture, transportation, distribution and disposal of chemicals. In order to promote the sustainable development of China's chemical industry and the Responsible Care concept, AICM has set up an award system since 2013, reviewing members’ Responsible Care practices and presenting the “Responsible Care Chairman Award” as well as the “Responsible Care Merritt Award” to members with outstanding performance. This year is the third time for WACKER to receive the “Responsible Care Chairman Award”. Further Chairman Awards went to another 13 companies, while additional 9 companies received the “Responsible Care Merritt Award”.

Paul Lindblad, President of WACKER Greater China, said after receiving the award, “The chemical industry has an important role to play in the progress of China’s sustainability in terms of resource saving and environment protection, while Responsible Care is the path to the sustainable development of the chemical industry. WACKER will continue to provide innovative solutions, to improve its EHS performance, to conduct an open dialogue with its stakeholders, and to keep sharing best practices with the Chinese chemical industry, thus promoting the sustainable development of both WACKER and society through corporate social responsibilities.”

WACKER Greater China was one of the first 24 AICM member companies who signed the Responsible Care Beijing Manifesto in 2008. WACKER’s production sites in China utilize state-of-the-art processes and technology, setting a high standard for the silicone and polymer industries. Through advanced technology and rigorous system, WACKER steadily improves its EHS performance year-on-year. In 2016, WACKER Greater China achieved an outstanding safety performance with zero Lost Time Injuries, zero accidents involving contact with hazardous materials and zero process safety incidents.

WACKER is not only focusing on its own practices, but also actively supports Chinese chemical enterprises to improve their safety management competency. In 2015 and 2016, WACKER organized 31 process safety trainings for 710 participants from 83 local companies in Nanjing and Zhangjiagang. Furthermore, WACKER has repeatedly opened its Zhangjiagang integrated silicones manufacturing site and its Nanjing polymers production site to the public to foster open communication with local communities. In 2015 and 2016, WACKER held Open-to-Public Days at both sites, showcasing its world-scales production sites as well as its advanced EHS technology to around 550 participants, including representatives of local government, schools, companies and residents.
