APFE 2017: WACKER PRESENTS ULTRATHIN SILICONE FILMS

WACKER will present ultrathin silicone films for the first time at 2017 Shanghai International Adhesive Tape, Protective Film & Optical Film Expo (APFE). ELASTOSIL® Film is a high-precision film with excellent durability. It is ideal for use as a dielectric precision layer in innovative, future-oriented electronics applications as well as other high-precision solutions. WACKER will also showcase a medical grade, called SILPURAN® Film which features both breathability and water-resistance. With certificated biocompatibility, it is extremely suitable for the production of gas-permeable and atraumatic wound dressings. APFE 2017 takes place in Shanghai from May 24 to 26.
ELASTOSIL® Film is an ultrathin, high-precision silicone film. The product, which is manufactured in a patented process, delivers immaculate and extremely uniform silicone films of a defined thickness. The maximum thickness variation across the film width is ±5%. ELASTOSIL® Film is especially impressive for its durability. Its outstanding dielectric properties, Young’s modulus and rebound resilience remain constant over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies, as well as over millions of load cycles. Furthermore, it is chemically inert and characterized by selective permeability for gases and water vapor.
ELASTOSIL® Film is ideal for use as a dielectric precision layer in innovative, future-oriented electronics applications based on electroactive polymers (EAPs), especially in “artificial muscles”, electricity generation and smart sensors. With its typical silicone properties, it can also be used in food packaging, technical textiles and an extremely wide variety of industrial applications.
SILPURAN® silicone film was especially developed for the medical and health care industry. Manufactured under clean-room conditions, it is biocompatible according to selected ISO 10993 tests and USP class VI. SILPURAN® Film exhibits typical silicone properties for medical applications. It is chemically inert, heat-resistant, and flexible at low temperatures, elastic and tear-resistant. Water beads off the film, but water vapor and gases such as oxygen diffuse through the membrane. This property makes it extremely suitable for the production of gas-permeable and atraumatic wound dressings which help boost the healing process. The silicone film can also be used as a gas-permeable membrane in other medical devices, such as heart-lung machines.
