WACKER® PRIMER G 718 X
WACKER® PRIMER G 718 X improves adhesion of ELASTOSIL® RTV-1 silicone rubber to smooth surfaces such as metals or plastics. WACKER® G 718 X is a solution of reactive siloxanes and silanes in an organic solvent and forms a silicone-resin film on the surface. It is not suitable for highly alkaline surfaces.
Data sheets
All surfaces to be primed must be dry, clean and completely free of contaminants such as dust, dirt, rust, oil, ect. The edges of the joint should be covered with masking tape to form a neat clean joint. The drying time given apply at room temperature and should be strictly observed since it decisively influences the adhesion of ELASTOSIL® RTV-1 silicone rubbers. The drying time is increasing at low ambient temperatures and decreasing at high ones. Contamination of the primed substrate surfaces will reduce the adhesion of silicone sealants. Therefore, it is to be ensured that the substrate surface is protected after the primer has been applied and that the silicone sealant is applied as soon as possible after the primer coat has dried.
WACKER® PRIMER G 718 X improves adhesion of ELASTOSIL® RTV-1 silicone rubber to some plastics and especially to metals that may have been surface-treated. Brief baking of the substrate (where feasible) at 120 to 150 °C after the primer film has formed will further enhance adhesion. Baking will improve adhesion to metals most of all. It will also increase the primer’s resistance to silicone rubbers that have a high solvent content. Consumption of WACKER® PRIMER G 718 X is about 30 - 50 g/m².
