VINNOL® L-6868
VINNOL® L-6868 is a copolymer of approx. 44 wt.% vinyl chloride and approx. 56 wt.% of vinyl acetate. Its main use is as a binder for surface coating compounds and printing inks.
VINNOL® L-6868 is a development product. The specifications given in this data sheet may therefore be subject to change. Please always consult WACKER POLYMERS about its availability before using it for industrial purposes.
Properties
VINNOL® L-6868 is a thermoplastic, physically drying binder that forms a film when the solvent contained in the formulation has evaporated.
VINNOL® L-6868 is characterized by excellent toughness, permanent flexibility, abrasion resistance, little tendency to swell in the presence of water and low gas permeability. It is also highly resistant to oil, grease, dilute aqueous acids and saline solutions, as well as to aliphatic hydrocarbons, such as white spirit, and alcohols.
Special features
VINNOL® L-6868 is an ultralow molecular weight copolymer with exceptional solubility in ketones, esters and certain glycol ethers, acetates, as well in acrylate functional monomers such as HDDA and TPGDA.
It is therefore especially suitable as a binder or cobinder for formulating solventborne flexible VINNOL® paint and printing ink formulations.
The excellent solubility and low viscosity of VINNOL® L-6868 in various monomers (e.g. HDDA, TPGDA, IBOA, MMA, styrene) and in low molecular weight cycloaliphatic epoxies and vinyl ethers, enables to use VINNOL® L-6868 in solvent-free 100% systems (UV curing or peroxide-cured) to modify flow, film-forming properties, interlayer adhesion, elasticity and toughness.
VINNOL® L-6868 also shows good compatibility with nitrocellulose resins and can be used for their modification.
