WACKER® INITIATOR 651

WACKER® INITIATOR 651 is a formulation of an oligomeric benzpinakolsilylether in triethylphosphate and xylene (tech.). It is especially suitable for the initiation of radical polymerization reactions.

Properties

  • Radical polymerization starter activated by heat
  • Endothermic, heat-controlled generation of radical starters, not autocatalytic
  • Low benzophenone content (< 8 wt%)

WACKER® INITIATOR 651 is a sated, yellow cloudy solution. It does not contain peroxides or azo compounds. The active component ofWACKER® INITIATOR 651 is an oligomeric benzpinakolsilylether with a weak central C-C-bond due to sterically demanding phenyl substituents. When  WACKER® INITIATOR 651 is heated, this C-C-bond is cleaved in an endothermic, controlled and reversible way to yield radicals. These radicals can initiate polymerization reactions of unsaturated monomers like vinyl monomers, acrylic compounds and other olefines. The typical temperature range is between 90 - 160 °C.

Storage

The "Best use before end" date of each batch is shown on the product label. Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.

WACKER® INITIATOR 651 must be stored in sealed original containers under cool and dry conditions and protected from light. A precipitation or a clouding during storing does not effect the product quality. In this case the contents of the drum must be properly stirred or otherwise mixed prior to use.
