SILRES® BS 712 US

SILRES® BS 712 US

SILRES® BS 712 US is a non-sacrificial anti-graffiti coating for the protection of concrete, masonry, wood and pre-existing coatings. It is based on polyorganosiloxanes and provides excellent performance against exterior elements such as rain, sun, and elevated temperatures.

SILRES® BS 712 US is a single component, fluoro-free product which cures at room temperature with the help of ambient moisture. The cured coating provides excellent release and ease of removal of most permanent markers and aerosol paints. It also provides protection against stickers.

Properties

SILRES® BS 712 US contains a select mixture of silicone compounds. The relatively high molecular weight silicone ingredients react with moisture and forms excellent adhesion to the host surface. The anti-graffiti coating is both weather resistant and breathable.

Particularly suitable for mineral building substrates such as concrete, brick, limestone, natural and artificial stone, plaster, wood and coated metal surfaces as a permanent protection against graffiti.

Before application, thoroughly examine the substrate, and decide if a suitable primer is needed.

Processing

Apply SILRES® BS 712 US to a clean, dry surface at temperatures above 40 F (5 °C). Surface may be cleaned by scrubbing, washing with a common solvent or cleaner, or power washing with water.

SILRES® BS 712 US can be thinned to the desired application viscosity. Before application the material can be diluted up to 30-50% with aliphatic organic solvents. Other solvents may be used following testing to ensure clarity of the coating, solvency, and stability. Weak solvent combinations can lead to a loss of cure, clarity or even precipitation of the coating’s solids. For this reason methyl acetate is not recommended.

After dilution, the ready-to-use product should be filtered through a 100 μm filter.

With proper protective equipment, SILRES® BS 712 US can be applied with a brush, roller, or airless sprayer. See the SDS for proper protective equipment.

A primer is not needed prior to applying SILRES® BS 712 US to most common mineral surfaces. For more difficult substrates, a diluted SILRES® BS 712 can be applied as a first layer, followed by a second later soon thereafter. Due to it’s consistency, SILRES® BS 712 US can be applied in a single coat.

A test area should be applied especially on surfaces painter or already damaged by graffiti.

Clean application tools immediately after application with solvents.

SILRES® BS 712 US cures quickly once applied to dry substrates and exposed to humidity in the air. Curing occurs at the surface and progresses to the substrate based on the available ambient moisture. Complete drying for heavier film builds may require up to 24 hours.

Containers, once opened, should be used up. Any remaining coating exposed to air will continue to cure and thicken, resulting in surface skinning and increased viscosity.

Please follow the additional instructions described in the customer presentation of SILRES® BS 712 US.

Graffiti removal

Graffiti can removed using a sponge or commercially available pressure washer with cold water. There is no need for additives or cleaning chemicals. SILRES® BS 712 US provides long term protection and remains effective even after the wall has been cleaned. Examples show good performance of the coating from 8 to 20 cleaning cycles.

Posters and stickers can also be peeled off surfaces treated with SILRES® BS 712 US.

Storage

The 'Best use before end' date of each batch is shown on the product label.

Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
