ETONIS® 7145 A

ETONIS® 7145 A is a surfactant stabilized vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer dispersion with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 0 °C and is used in cold asphalt applications. ETONIS® 7145 A imparts excellent film flexibility, wet track abrasion resistance and adhesion.

Properties

ETONIS® 7145 A can be compounded with cold asphalt emulsion and is combinable with common additives such as emulsifier, defoamer, thickeners and fillers. In asphalt emulsions, ETONIS® 7145 A is compatible with both cationic and anionic system. ETONIS® 7145 A improves rheology, adhesion, flexibility, drying, wet tack abrasion and water/oil/fuel resistances.

ETONIS® 7145 A is suitable for modifying both anionic and cationic asphalt emulsions for waterproofing, roofing, tack coat, chip seal, fog seal, scrub seal, microsurfacing and driveway sealers, and other cold asphalt applications.

ETONIS® 7145 A may be used with both anionic and cationic asphalt emulsions. ETONIS® 7145 A can be incorporated into asphalt emulsion through addition to the soap solution (batch process) or via co-milling (continuous process).  It may also be added directly to the asphalt emulsion with minimal stirring. The amount of ETONIS® 7145 A needed to modify cold asphalt emulsions ranges from 1.0 - 5.0 % v/v relative to the asphalt emulsion. The amounts used in special applications for higher ductility, flexibility and elongation may be considerably higher. The exact amount will depend on the requirements profile.

If ETONIS® 7145 A is used in applications other than those mentioned, the choice, processing and use of ETONIS® 7145 A is the sole responsibility of the purchaser. All legal and other regualtions must be complied with. Slight discoloration may occur without impairing the product's functionality.

Storage

ETONIS® 7145 A should be stored in  tanks and proper storage conditions must be maintained. If stored in the original, unopened containers at cool temperature (below 30 °C), it must remain above frost free temperatures. ETONIS® 7145 A has a shelf life of 9 months from the date of manufacture. Iron or galvanized-iron equipment and containers are not recommended because the dispersion is slightly acidic. Corrosion may result in discoloration of the dispersion or its blends when further processed. Therefore the use of containers and equipment made of ceramics, rubberized or enameled materials, appropriately finished stainless steel, or plastic (e.g. rigid PVC, polyethylene or polyester resin) is recommended. As polymer dispersions may tend to superficial film formation, skins or lumps may form during storage or transportation. Filtration is therefore recommended prior to utilization of the product.

Preservation for Transport, Storage and further Processing of ETONIS® 7145 A is adequately preserved during transportation and storage if kept in the original, unopened containers. However, if it is transferred to storage tanks, the dispersion should be protected against microbial attack by adding a suitable preservative package. To maintain proper storage conditions appropriate measures should also be taken to ensure cleanliness of the tanks and pipes. In a storage tank in which ETONIS® 7145 A is not stirred, it is advisable to contact your biocide representative/supplier. Proper procedures must be set up in order to prevent microbial attack between necessary periodic tank cleaning and sanitization. These procedures will vary, since loading and unloading practices in each storage situation will differ slightly. Finished products manufactured from polymer dispersions usually also require preservation. The type and scope of preservation will depend on the raw materials used and the anticipated sources of contamination. The compatibility with other components and the efficacy of the preservative should always betested in the respective formulation. Preservative manufacturers will be able to advise you about the type and dosage of preservative required.
