Properties

Addition of GENIOSIL® GF 60 may increase the shelf life of silane-crosslinking, moisture-hardening formulations and influence the curing rate. In addition GENIOSIL® GF 60 also acts as a crosslinker via its trialkoxysilyl group.
GENIOSIL® GF 60 is an alkoxysilane with an O-methyl carbamate organofunctional group.
It´s a clear, colorless to light yellowish liquid with a characteristically aromatic odor.
As a bifunctional compound, GENIOSIL® GF 60 can interact with many different organic polymers, thus functioning as a molecular bridge between inorganic and organic subtrates.
GENIOSIL® GF 60 is a reactive molecule capable of scavenging moisture in formulations.

1. General processing information

GENIOSIL® GF 60 is readily soluble inconventional organic solvents.
In aqueous media, it undergoes a mild exothermic reaction (methanol is released).
Initially, a clear solution is obtained. After a short time, an emulsion forms in this solution or a resin-like condensate is deposited.
The high reactivity of GENIOSIL® GF 60 toward water must be taken into account during storage and processing of the product.

2. GENIOSIL® GF 60 as an additive in silane-crosslinking formulations

GENIOSIL® GF 60 is added to silane-crosslinking formulations, (e.g. silane-terminated polyethers or polyurethanes), in order to control the curing of the compounds, to prevent premature curing caused by traces of moisture, or to improve adhesion. Standardd mixing procedures should be used. GENIOSIL® GF 60 is added before or during incorporation of the silane-terminated polymer. The amount added will depend on the formulation´s desired properties. Generally, about 1 wt.% GENIOSIL® GF 60 is used.

GENIOSIL® GF 60 is used as a reactive diluent or water scanvenger in the production of moisture-crosslinking adhesive and sealant formulations.
GENIOSIL® GF 60 also has adhesion-promoting properties and is added to adhesives, sealants and coatings, where apropriate in combination with other adhesion promoters.

Storage

The 'Best use before end' date of each batch is shown on the product label. Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
