Silicones from WACKER for Electric Vehicles (EVs)
WACKER silicones are the epitome of reliability. Silicones safely dissipate excess heat. They are available in flame retardant formulations and withstand vibrations, chemicals, and oils. In addition, they hardly age at all.

Electric cars will shape our future
Everywhere you turn, electric vehicles are set to take over the roads. WACKER silicone elastomers and resins for electric drives, batteries, and fuel cells offer solutions to stay ahead of this development.
Silicone resins for more battery safety
Novel EV battery safety concepts rely on silicone resins. Silicone-resin-based fiber composites exhibit an unprecedented degree of fire resistance combined with thermal insulation. In the event of fire, they interact with fillers and fibers to form ceramic materials. By using the novel fiber composites as a battery enclosure or heat shield the passenger cabin can be protected from high temperatures caused by a thermal runaway.
Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs)
When mixed with fillers, silicone becomes the perfect thermally conductive material to prevent overheating of batteries, electronic control units and sensors as well as power electronics. Our silicone-based thermal interface materials are supplied in a variety of viscosities, cure speeds and conductivities.
Efficient production of battery modules with silicone
Batteries and especially pouch cell modules are high-volume products. Our gap fillers can be applied quickly yet gently by high volume dispensing or alternatively by injection. They cure at room temperature and provide efficient thermal transfer. Easy handling and high throughput are key to securing and maintaining cost and efficiency advantages in automotive production.
Electronic Control Units (ECUs) & Power Conversion Units (PCUs)
WACKER offers a wide range of silicone solutions to protect electronic control units (ECUs) and power conversion units (PCUs). High-performance silicones ensure that heat, moisture, oxidation, and vibrations do not damage your central components. What’s more, our silicone grades are extremely efficient to process. Whether for encapsulating, sealing, or bonding.
IATF certification for silicone manufacturing
The International Automotive Task Force published the IATF 16949 automotive standard in 2016. The automotive industry uses it to summarize the requirements that have to be met by suppliers’ company structures and quality-management systems. WACKER has recently had part of its silicone business certified to IATF 16949 and is now a direct supplier to the automotive industry.
We accompany our customers around the world on their journey from the initial idea to series production. Our application technology and guidance are focused on one goal: finding the best product solution for our customers.
