PCHi 2016: WACKER Presents New Silicone Elastomer Gel for Cosmetic Formulation

BELSIL^® REG 102 is a transparent to semi-transparent gel that exhibits shear thinning behaviour, which allows formulating cosmetic products to spread easily during application and brings a pleasant light and silky feel to the skin. Part of the silicones, which acts as a carrier, evaporate after application, leaving back the active ingredients in the elastomer gel which quickly form a continuous light and non-tacky breathable protection film and create an exceptional soft and moist feeling. The elastic film based on a unique WACKER resin not only adheres well to the skin, but also improves the water resistance of skin care and make-up formulations. It is thus in particular suitable for lipstick, foundation and sun care products.

BELSIL^® EG 2 – Multi-functional Silicone Elastomer
At PCHi 2016, WACKER will also present BELSIL^® EG 2, an ethylene-based silicone elastomer gel which features unique sensory characteristics. It can be widely used in various personal care formulations to meet the increasing market and consumer demand regarding additional product functions. In anti-aging creams or eye serums, BELSIL^® EG 2 can not only improve the sensorial feel, but also smooth fine lines. Its special matt feature imparts the skin a supple and natural appearance.

In transepidermal water loss tests, creams formulated with BELSIL^® EG 2 show longer moisture retention than those using normal moisture oils. Besides, it can also be used in all kinds of foundation products to improve distribution. The silicone forms a soft and non-sticky breathable protection film which adheres well to the skin. BB creams formulated by BELSIL^® EG 2 can achieve multi-effects by evening the skin tone and making pores invisible. Moreover, in hair treatment oil, it can improve smoothness and natural volume of the hair without becoming sticky.

BELSIL^® SPG 128 VP – Light and Non-Tacky Water-in-Oil Emulsifier
Water-in-oil formulations are widely used in skin care, sun care and decorative cosmetics. However, traditional emulsifiers for water-in-oil formulations usually create a heavy and tacky skin-feel. In order to meet the market needs, WACKER developed BELSIL^® SPG 128 VP, a partly renewable water-in-oil emulsifier, by synthesising silicone with glycoside. It can effectively improve the distribution property and impart a comfortable light, silky and non-sticky sensory. Experiments show that at low dosage silicone polyglycosides are also able to enhance the distribution of the pigment in the formulation and avoid settlement. It makes water-in-oil formulation with the high level of powder easy to absorb and non-tacky at all. BELSIL^® SPG 128 is especially suitable for the development of the popular BB and CC creams, air cushions and watery foundations.

BELSIL^® DMC 6038 - Clear and Silky Sensory Modifier for Serums
At PCHi, WACKER will also present the polyether modified silicone BELSIL^® DMC 6038, which is an excellent sensory modifier. Small amounts added to the formula provide a soft and silky skin feeling. The Product can also be used for traditional face serums and highly transparent essences.

BELSIL^® DMC 6038 can effectively reduce the tacky feeling which is often caused by moisturizing agents and thickeners. When used in formulations for hair treatment serums, the product provides a moist and silky feeling and is able to repair slightly or moderately damaged hair. Experiments show that BELSIL^® DMC 6038 is odour and transparency stable, and is compatible with other ingredients.
