C-TOUCH EXHIBITION 2015: WACKER Presents UV Curing Silicones for Optical Bonding

Shenzhen, Nov 24, 2015

At the 14th China International Touchscreen Exhibition (C-Touch Exhibition), WACKER, the Munich-based chemical group and a global leader in silicone solutions, will present its UV curing silicone products for optical bonding. Based on WACKER’s unique curing mechanism, LUMISIL® UV simplify the lamination process by eliminating side curing effects in the shadow area. They feature extremely low shrinkage and excellent thermal stability and offer outstanding optical and environmental properties. Another highlight is LUMISIL® 101, a thermal-cure, optically clear silicone resin (OCR). Both LUMISIL® UV and LUMISIL® 101 are ideal for the optical bonding of large-sized touch-screen and vehicle-mounted panels. They also allow the reliable encapsulation of optical and electronic components. The C-Touch Exhibition takes place in Shenzhen, China, from November 25 to 27.

Lumisil UV Screen
Featured with extremely low shrinkage, excellent thermal stability, outstanding optical properties and environmental properties, LUMISIL® UV product series are ideal for optical bonding of large-sized touch-screen and vehicle-mounted panels. They also allow the reliable encapsulation of optical and electronic components.

Touch screens are bonded with optically clear resins (OCR) such as acrylics. Although acrylics work well for small-sized screens, due to their relatively high shrinkage during bonding process, they do not meet the optical requirements of popular large screens with more than 10 inches.

In order to address the optical bonding requirements for large-sized screens, WACKER developed LUMISIL® UV silicone OCRs. High transparency, low shrinkage, low E-modulus and a high dielectric constant – all these properties make LUMISIL® UV suitable for large-sized displays and touch screens for vehicle-mounted navigation and aviation applications.

The LUMISIL® UV product series consists of 2-component, UV-curing silicone OCRs. The curing mechanism is activated by the exposure to high energy ultraviolet light without the use of photo initiators and the release of other by-products. Eliminating side curing effects in the shadow areas which may impair proper bonding of the component, this not only ensures a reliable boding of the display, but also simplifies the bonding process and enhances production efficiency significantly. The LUMISIL® UV series includes several product grades. Their viscosity varies from 2,000 to 45,000 mPa*s which matches the requirements of all production processes used in the industry.

At C-Touch 2015, WACKER will also present LUMISIL® 101, a thermal-cure OCR. A two-component silicone gel, this product offers high transparency and excellent thermal stability. It also has a low viscosity and offers minimal shrinkage, low hazing and nearly no yellowing. Reliability tests show that the product’s properties barely change, even under severe conditions. The product cures fast, even at low temperatures (below 70 ℃). Due to these advantages, LUMISIL® 101 fully meets a wide range of display requirements, both for indoor and outdoor use, e.g. portable displays, public information displays, and navigation devices.
