Improved Fire Protection Means Increased Safety

Be on the safe side when it comes to fire prevention. In addition to maximizing fire protection, novel ELASTOSIL® LR liquid silicone rubber grades also make your processes more efficient and cost effective. Fire-retardant ELASTOSIL® LR products are easy to integrate into injection-molding processes. The resulting cured rubber grades are ideal for challenging industrial applications, earning high marks for their property profile, which is as balanced as it is extraordinary.

Up to now, liquid silicone rubber products were made flame-retardant by adding inert fillers, such as quartz. Yet when used in injection molding – a very economical process in and of itself – fillers such as these lead to increased material wear. This is especially true near the gate of the injection-molding tool, and leads to shorter maintenance intervals and expensive tool reworking.

Greater Flame Retardance, Less Wear on the Molding Tool

This situation can be remedied through the use of novel liquid silicone rubber grades from the ELASTOSIL® LR 3011/50 FR, LR 3011/60 FR and LR 3170/40 product lines. These products have been formulated with special inert fillers that interact to provide superb flame retardance with no abrasive additives. This greatly reduces mold wear compared to liquid silicone rubber grades formulated with conventional flame retardants.

Highest Fire-Safety Rating

Besides the promise of significantly longer service life, these LSR products also make processing more cost effective. Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a US product safety certification organization, gave the fire performance of non-flammable, self-extinguishing ELASTOSIL® LR products its highest fire-safety rating (V-0).
