WACKER® IM 11
WACKER® IM 11 is a polydimethylsiloxane having carbinolfunctional groups in α,ω-position.
By functionalizing the polydimethylsiloxanes at the ends of the chain defined products with 2 organofunctions are obtained. The functional groups are bonded to the polydimethylsiloxane by chemically inert propylene spacergroups, which are stable to hydrolysis.
Its terminal functional groups render WACKER® IM 11 a valuable reactive silicone intermediate, which is useful for typical reactions with suitable functional groups of appropriate compounds, e.g. esterifications, transesterifications and addition reactions with isocyanates. This results in manifold possibilities for further chemical modification, for the synthesis of block copolymer systems or for the modification of organic polymers with silicone.
Modification of organic systems with polydimethylsiloxanes results in a change of the properties of the system. Typical properties of the polydimethylsiloxane backbone are, for example:
- low surface tension
- good softender effects
- high chemical stability
- excellent high- and low-temperature stability
- very good low-temperature flexibility
WACKER® IM 11 is used in following applications of the textile auxiliary industry:
Polyurethane finecoating: plastifier, softener
Artifical leather: flow control agent for paints
WACKER® IM 11 can be used neat, from solution, or emulsion. Suitable solvents for WACKER® IM 11 are aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, esters, higher alcohols, and ketones.
The 'Best use before end' date of each batch is shown on the product label.
Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
