VINNAPAS® vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) polymer dispersions are ideal binders in the formulation of adhesives. GENIOSIL® silane modified polymers are increasingly replacing traditional adhesives in the transportation sector, where high performance is required but environmental concerns must be considered. A high bond strength, high flexibility and many other features are thus achievable. Plus, HDK® pyrogenic silica helps to control rheology.

VINNAPAS® VAE polymer dispersions can be used in a wide variety of high-performance adhesives, including those for car interior applications.

HDK® pyrogenic silica can optimally adjust the rheology of plastisols, thus preventing them from dripping and sagging. Polar binders of structural adhesives, for example, based on polyurethane or epoxy resin systems, can be rendered permanently thixotropic with appropriate hydrophobic HDK® grades. Hydrophobic HDK® is also used in car window installation, to adjust the rheological properties of the adhesives.

Heat stability in aluminum/aluminum bonding: aluminum test pieces were bonded using a model formulation consisting of GENIOSIL® XB 502, 2.5% GENIOSIL® GF 9 and a stabilizer at various concentrations. The test pieces were first conditioned for 21 days at room temperature and then for >25 days at 150 °C. The tensile lap shear strengths retained two-thirds of their initial measured values whereas conventional hybrid systems would have disintegrated after just a few days.

GENIOSIL® silane modified polymers (SMPs) are increasingly replacing polyurethanes and epoxy adhesives in the transportation sector, as environmental awareness within this industry grows. SMP-based adhesives are suitable for windscreen replacement due to their improved adhesion profile for the substrates typically used in this type of work. In fact, panels in bus, truck, rail and automotive assembly are nowadays often bonded using SMP-based adhesives. As the industry moves away from adhesives emitting toxic fumes, SMPs have become the adhesives of choice.
