Silicones
Silicones are truly multi-talented. We encounter them every day – in smartphones, cars, textiles, paints, coatings and medical applications.
Silicones Business Division
The age of silicones began at WACKER nearly 80 years ago. In 1947, we became Europe’s first silicone manufacturer; today we are number two in the global silicones business. The Silicones division offers the company’s broadest range of products.
“Silicones are an advanced material fit for the future. Their unique properties are the key to innovations and technological progress in a great many fields, such as the energy transition, electromobility, medical technology and the digital transformation.”
Silicones – empowering megatrends
Discover innovations that drive digitalization, electromobility and the energy transition – from safe solutions for electric transportation to smart sensors and world firsts in sustainable energy.
Multi-talented silicones for a variety of application areas
Silicones have unique properties and are far more versatile than other synthetic materials. They withstand both heat and cold, serving not only as sealants and insulators, but also as lubricants and release agents. They are flexible, water-repellent, elastic, UV-resistant and extremely durable. Thanks to their unique chemical and physical properties, they feature in many application areas and appear everywhere in daily life – even if we don’t usually notice them!
Products made of silicone – indispensable in everyday life
360° Protection
Under attack: buildings are constantly exposed to moisture from every direction – from the elements above and from groundwater below. WACKER’s SILRES® BS line of high-performance products is suitable for impregnating facades to make them water-repellent and for protecting damp masonry from moisture – for effective, all-round moisture protection for all types of masonry work.

Pyrogenic silica is a key constituent of the dry toners used by laser printers and photocopiers. WACKER, together with its distributor Clariant, provides tailor-made solutions.
Silicones: artful materials at work!
Great art needs creative ideas – and of course the right materials to turn them into a reality. WACKER silicones are often used here. These extremely versatile “artful” materials stimulate creative ideas – in the culinary arts as well as in the fine arts. See for yourself!

Production on three continents
We have manufacturing sites in Europe, the Americas and Asia – all maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. We also set a high bar when it comes to environmental protection, as evidenced by our highly integrated production system in Nünchritz, Germany, which makes maximum use of byproducts, and by the EPA award for our environmental commitment in Adrian, USA.
And by the way:
A good quarter of our silicon metal is sourced from our production site in Holla, Norway . The advantage of this in-house production? It increases our supply security, making us a lot more independent.
