Pyrogenic Silica

HDK® pyrogenic silica is a light, bulky white powder. Thanks to our integrated production system with statistical process control and highly efficient reactor dynamics, we produce pyrogenic silica of exceptional purity. Pyrogenic silica from WACKER is an excellent insulator for electrical current and thermal energy. The special feature of all pyrogenic silicas is their large specific surface area: 18 grams of a typical pyrogenic silica covers an area the size of a soccer pitch.

Hydrophilic HDK® Grades

Hydrophilic HDK® is manufactured by the hydrolysis of volatile chlorosilanes in an oxyhydrogen flame. In chemical terms, the loose white powder consists of highly pure amorphous silicon dioxide. Hydrophilic silica is wetted by, and can be dispersed in, water.

HDK® Hydrophobic Grades

Hydrophobic HDK® is made by chemically modifying hydrophilic HDK® with reactive silanes, silazanes or siloxanes. Hydrophobic pyrogenic silica has water-repellent properties and is no longer dispersible in water. It is particularly suitable as a rheological additive in polar polymer matrix systems.
