SEMICOSIL®

The SEMICOSIL® brand from WACKER covers two fields of application:

First, silicone elastomers for electronics and batteries. Each product is customized to the requirements in this area of application. We offer you a portfolio of highly specialized grades.

Second, SEMICOSIL® Electronic Chemicals, which are an indispensable component of the semiconductor industry. We offer precursor materials, adhesion promoters, components for polishing slurries and high-purity etching agents.

SEMICOSIL® protects sensitive electronics and can dissipate heat efficiently. SEMICOSIL® grades are easy to process. They are suitable for potting, encapsulation, bonding and for filling air gaps. SEMICOSIL® is suitable for series production in the industrial and automotive sectors.

We offer silicone rubber grades with:

  • Extremely high chemical purity (ion content of < 2 ppm)
  • Low-temperature stability (down to -120 °C)
  • High-temperature stability (up to +210 °C)
  • Resistance to aggressive media, e.g. fuels and acidic exhaust
  • Reduction of thermal stress
  • Dampening of vibrations
  • Uniform stress distribution between different materials

SEMICOSIL® silicones are available as 1- and 2-part silicone rubber grades, addition-cured or UV-cured. The curing system and times can be adjusted individually by choosing the appropriate catalyst. All grades are fully automatically processable in mixing and metering units and ideal for processing by conventional methods or in mass production. Selected grades are available as thermally conductive materials in the form of adhesives, gap fillers and pastes.

SEMICOSIL® silicone rubber grades are used as

  • Thermal adhesives, pastes and gap fillers,

in the manufacture of circuit boards, power semiconductor devices, electronic control units and transformers.

Our products are characterized by their high quality:

  • High purity: Our precursors or etching agents can be used in CVD coating chambers directly after filtration and filling.
  • Effective purification: Any remaining trace contamination can be easily removed by distillation if the application requires even higher purity.
  • Low trace-metal content: Guarantees the quality and safety of our products.
  • Minimal interference from dopants, such as boron or germanium, that can have a negative impact on functionality.

Applications:

SEMICOSIL® products for the semiconductor industry are used as

  • Precursors for Si-containing insulating layers including low-k and ultra-low-k applications
  • Adhesion promoters for photolithography
  • Etching agents for regular post-treatment, without risk of contaminating, e.g. epitaxy chambers
  • Components for polishing agents, which mostly serve as mechanical abrasion components in the slurries

Silicone Portfolio For e-Mobility, Battery Safety and Power Electronics

Our silicones protect sensitive electronics and support thermal management. This enables the key topics – electrification, connectivity and autonomous driving – to be implemented reliably and economically. Silicones from WACKER guarantee high reliability and a long service life. In addition, flame-retardant silicone coatings make it possible to use lightweight laminates to separate individual compartments in the car, e.g., to separate the battery from the passenger compartment.

The Role of Specialty Chemicals in Chip Manufacturing
