SILPURAN® eco 2114: Q&A
Methanol is an important component in the production of silicone gel adhesives. To create our Eco products, we apply the mass balance approach to replace methanol from fossil sources with biobased methanol.
This method allows us to calculate the amount of biomethanol required, which we then feed into the production process. The biomethanol we use is made from biomass that has been certified as sustainable, i.e., that comes primarily from grass cuttings, straw or sugar beet scraps.
The mass balance approach vs. conventional production methods
The following outlines the Scope 3 emission reductions you can achieve depending on whether your sustainability calculations include biocarbon:
Relative CO2 reduction [in CO2e]1 (based on cradle-to-gate data, 2022). TÜV Rheinland has certified that the method conforms to Together for Sustainability and ISO 14067 standards. We will provide you with the specific calculations for your project upon request.
