WACKER Presents Cementitious Tile Adhesive Technology for Porcelain Tiles for the Asian Market at East Asia Drymix Mortar Conference

WACKER participated in the East Asia Drymix Mortar Conference hosted by the International Drymix Mortar Association (IDMA), on July 3 at the Mondrian Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

WACKER participated in the East Asia Drymix Mortar Conference hosted by the International Drymix Mortar Association (IDMA), on July 3 at the Mondrian Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The event brought together key building materials manufacturers to share the latest construction technologies and market trends. At the conference, WACKER introduced its cementitious tile adhesive technology for porcelain tiles.

This was the first IDMA-hosted event specifically targeting the East Asian region from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. A total of 12 companies specializing in drymix mortar raw materials, production, and equipment gave presentations. More than 130 R&D professionals and construction researchers gathered to exchange insights on the latest technologies, product developments, and market trends in the drymix mortar sector.

WACKER took part in the event to strengthen its presence in the East Asian market and share its latest technological advancements in the drymix mortar field.

The conference covered various topics, including sustainable construction practices aligned with ESG management, solutions to the shortage of skilled labor in the construction industry, regional construction market and technology trends across Asia, and Korean research on impact sound insulation in multi-family housing.

Mr. Eiji Hayashi, Executive Director at TOYO MATELAN, shared his impression as follows. I was particularly impressed by the opportunity for meaningful information exchange and the potential for future business collaborations with Korean manufacturers.”

Drymix mortar is a pre-blended building material composed of cement, sand, and additives mixed in a factory. On-site, it only needs to be combined with water. It is used for applications such as tile adhesives, joint fillers, ETICS mortars, and self-leveling floor compounds.

WACKER’s Construction Polymers division offers a wide range of products for these applications. At this event, Iljoon Choi, Technical Manager at Construction Polymers for Northeast Asia Region, presented the company’s latest technological developments.

Mr. Choi spoke about evolving ceramic tile trends and market demands. He discussed the limitations of traditional cement-based adhesives and introduced WACKER’s polymer technology in construction industry and the polymer powder products developed using it.

WACKER’s Polymer powders are mixed with drymix mortar to enhance adhesion strength and flexibility. These improved mortars can bond even large tiles over 2 meters in size and retain adhesive performance in extreme temperatures. They also reduce tile breakage from external impacts, thereby contributing to the long-term durability of buildings.

In the construction industry, demand for such high-performance and eco-friendly solutions is rapidly increasing. WACKER’s Construction Polymers division is responding with technologies that enhance the sustainability of building materials and provide a variety of solutions.
