Furnace chamber test: Films made with VAE and SB binders are tested at WACKER’s carpet lab in Burghausen. The tests show that specific VAE-based films are self-extinguishing (Photo 1), while films made with SB burn readily, issuing black smoke (Photo 2). VAE-based binders there-fore allow for formulations that need fewer flame retardant additives.

Composition of a tufted carpet: The new VINNAPAS^® CA 55 is suitable for formulating highly-filled precoats which bond carpet fibers to the primary backing. In addition, it also enables the formulation of secondary coatings, which, in turn, bond the carpet to the secondary backing (graphics: Wacker Chemie AG).

ELASTOSIL^® from WACKER covers a wide range of silicone-rubber products that offer extremely diverse properties. They are suitable for use in a large variety of industries. Silicones are used in shower heads, tubing and cable insulation, as well as in household items such as flexible ice cube molds (photo). The ready-to-use silicone compounds are usually made by incorporating the crosslinker, pigment and other additives into the rubber base.

At EXPOBOR 2014, WACKER will show ELASTOSIL^® R 781/80. The new magnetic silicone grade is suited to numerous applications in the household and food packaging industry.

At the K 2016 Trade Fair for Rubber and Plastics, WACKER will present new applications for ELASTOSIL^® Film. Due to their dielectric properties, precision silicone films can be used in novel sensors, actuators and generators. The ultrathin films are produced in Burghausen under cleanroom conditions.
