Interior Paints & Coatings

WACKER offers binders and additives derived from different chemical platforms for formulating interior paints: silicone chemistry, organic chemistry or a combination of the two. These platforms are the foundation of both our broad portfolio of highly specialized solutions and our outstanding expertise, allowing us to offer combinations of desirable properties, such as strong adhesion, high hydrophobicity, scrub and stain resistance or low VOC values.

SILRES® BS additives are used to improve stain resistance and ease processing of waterborne coating materials for interior applications. They improve the wetting and leveling properties of interior paints and produce very smooth, even coatings.

Benefits:

  • Lasting hydrophobicity
  • Soft-touch effect
  • Enhanced stain resistance
  • Enhanced scratch resistance
  • Resistance to dry burnishing
  • Easier to process

SILRES® BS silicone resin additives are used to simplify the processing of waterborne indoor coating materials. In interior paints, they make processing easier and improve storage stability.

Benefits:

  • Water-repellent
  • Make processing easier and improve storage stability
  • High vapor permeability
  • Lasting hydrophobicity

VINNAPAS® vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) dispersions excel due to their:

  • Attractive environmental benefits
  • High performance
  • Attractive cost/performance ratio

Our portfolio comprises products that have been polymerized without using raw materials containing APEO. Many grades have a minimal residual monomer (< 200 ppm) and residual formaldehyde (< 5 ppm) content, making them well suited for formulating paints with VOC levels of less than 1 g/l without compromising on performance.

The graph clearly illustrates the inherently superior coalescing properties of VAE-based emulsions compared to styrene-acrylic (SA) emulsions.

Improved Coalescence at Low Temperatures

VAE dispersions are rapidly becoming the industry standard for low-odor interior paints – with fewer coalescing solvents, they feature a lower odor impact and lower formulation costs. VAE copolymers also offer improved coalescence at low temperatures, which enhances low-temperature touch-up properties. They can also significantly boost crack resistance while reducing the overall cost of the formulated paint.

Under the PRIMIS® brand, we offer oil-resistant and hydrophobic dispersions based on acrylate copolymers. As an additional co-binder in interior paints, these grades increase stain resistance and allow the formulation of easy-to-clean paints. Many different types of stains, from coffee and red wine, to marks from pencils, crayons and highlighters, can be easily wiped off with a cloth using a household dishwashing detergent diluted with water.

Benefits:

  • High stain resistance
  • Enhanced blocking resistance
  • Can be used in existing formulations
  • Compatible with VINNAPAS® VAE dispersions
  • Compatible with acrylic-based binders
