GENIOSIL® PTM is an alkoxyarylsilane. In the presence of moisture silanols are formed by hydrolysis (methanol is released), which can then react to form siloxanes.
In silane-crosslinking formulations, (e.g. silane-terminated polyethers , polyurethanes or polysiloxanes), GENIOSIL® PTM is mixed into the formulation as an additive to prevent premature crosslinking due to trace moisture. Processing is effected by means of standard mixing methods (e.g. paddle agitator, dissolver, kneader). GENIOSIL® PTM may be added before or during incorporation of the reactive polymer. The amount added will depend on the water content and pretreatment of the components, up to 2,5 wt.% are typically used. GENIOSIL® PTM as water scavenger during the production of silane-crosslinking adhesive and sealant formulations is particularly characterized by its high flash point and by being virtually odorless.
