SILRES® BS 1052

SILRES® BS 1052

SILRES® BS 1052 is an aqueous and water-dilutable emulsion of a medium-viscosity polydimethylsiloxane. It is used to impart water repellency to resin-bound or unbound glass wool (fiberglass) and stone wool.

Properties

SILRES® BS 1052 shows high thermal stability. Due to its viscosity in the medium range, it is easily pumpable and dilutable despite its high solid content.

SILRES® BS 1052 has to be stirred well before use. Moderate stirring equipment running at medium speed is sufficient – high shear forces and air entrainment are not necessary and must be avoided.

SILRES® BS 1052 is applied via spraying equipment after the fiberizer. For this purpose it can be diluted with water as required. If the glass or stone wool substrate is a resin-bound material, after a compatibility test, SILRES® BS 1052 is mixed with the resin mixture and sprayed onto the wool. It can also be sprayed separately without mixing using a second spraying unit.

The addition ratio, based on the mass of glass or stone fibers, varies between 0.05 and 0.2 weight % for stone wool, and between 0.1 and 0.3 weight % for glass wool (always based on the weight of the dried final product).

The quantity of SILRES® BS 1052 to be applied also depends on the desired water repellency of the end product. Individual tests must always be conducted in order to define the necessary quantities.

For blowing wool, overdosing the silicone emulsion can change the consistency of the wool, which may cause injector blockages during application.

Storage

The 'Best use before end' date of each batch is shown on the product label. Storage beyond the date specified on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
