Incident on September 7, 2017

On September 7, 2017, a compressor malfunctioned causing an explosion and chemical leak at WACKER's plant in Charleston, Tennessee, USA. Plant operations have been suspended. The plant is now safe and secure.

WACKER is currently investigating the cause of the malfunction and is working closely with the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA).

The incident damaged pipes at the plant resulting in a localized leak of chlorosilane. The site’s highly trained incident response team immediately contained the chemical leak with water.

We deeply regret any safety and health concerns caused by the incident for our employees and our community. We take safety very seriously.
