Accordingly, a Nutrition business team was set up within the WACKER BIOSOLUTIONS division in early 2010, with the primary goal of developing ingredients and solutions for the food industry and its suppliers. The new Food Laboratory commenced work in Burghausen in early 2011. "We’re concentrating on developing new product solutions for the beverages and dairy industry,” says Dr. Ralf Mezger, Food Laboratory director and an engineer in brewing and beverage technology. "We want to devise custom solutions with clients so as to optimize the use of functional substances in our customers’ products or to make that possible in the first place.”
Top of the Food Laboratory’s agenda are analytical test methods, the optimization of sensory parameters and the stability of sensitive ingredients. Plus, Dr. Mezger’s team is currently assembling a trained panel of tasters for evaluating the sensory properties of edible samples. The new lab in Burghausen complements the existing applications laboratory in Adrian, Michigan, and is a cornerstone for building up WACKER’s presence in the European food sector.
