ELASTOSIL® Silicones in the Manufacture of Mammary Prostheses

A mammary prosthesis consists of a thin shell (e.g. PUR) filled with silicone.

The use of thermoplastic material for the shell allows the prostheses to be shaped individually. The shell resembles a bag with a feeding channel.

The shell is filled with ELASTOSIL® silicone gel.

A negative mold gives the prosthesis its shape.

ELASTOSIL® silicone gel begins curing at room temperature. Curing can be accelerated by heating to between 70 °C and 130 °C.

Subsequently, the prosthesis is removed from the mold and packaged.
