Highly transparent liquid silicone rubber grades and room-temperature-curing silicone elastomers open up new design and manufacturing possibilities for optical elements and boast outstanding material properties.

Silicones offer maximum optical transparency while displaying good long-term stability when exposed to heat, visible light or UV radiation. Furthermore, they are lightweight and highly resistant to chemical and mechanical influences.

WACKER offers a selection of highly transparent silicones for optical encapsulation and molding applications. With regard to the cured rubber products’ processability (viscosity, flow characteristics and crosslinking kinetics) and mechanical properties (hardness, elongation at break, etc.), the portfolio offers tailor-made solutions for sophisticated optical systems. Examples range from the encapsulation of LED strips and SOG (silicone on glass) applications to the mass production of complex optical components by injection molding.

Thanks to their outstanding long-term stability, silicones are also ideal for the manufacture of reflective molded parts and coatings.
