Modern LEDs are high-performance products. They are ten times more energy-efficient than a classic incandescent light bulb and have a service-life that can exceed 50,000 hours. To protect the sensitive semiconductor chip from mechanical or chemical damage and to modify its optical properties, silicones are the material of choice for state of the art encapsulation and lenses.
The WACKER LUMISIL® series for LED applications shows excellent light stability and outstanding transparency. The products are highly heat-resistant and additionally block moisture and corrosive gases from the chip surface.
Furthermore thermally conductive silicones are used in thermal management of the LED chip package. ELASTOSIL® and SEMICOSIL® products offer various high performance solutions.
