Taking SILRES® WH to the limit

At first Dirk S. didn’t even want to treat his fences (1 and 2 years old). But when he discovered SILRES® WH, he took the opportunity for some extra wood protection – especially against road spray. And while he was at it, our tester also applied the product to some other interesting objects.

Effectivity in the rain

After 1.5 years the untreated wood already shows moisture damage (growth of algae/fungi), while the treated wood remains undamaged.

The wooden fences had already been pressure-impregnated. „But that had no visible influence on moisture absorption. The wood was visibly wet after every shower“, Dirk S. recalls. The SILRES® WH dilution (1:10) was absorbed well. Part of the fence remained untreated for comparison. „Two or three hours after the first application of SILRES® WH it began to rain“, Mr. S. says. „I thought the fresh coat would wash right off. But three days later the beading effect was very clearly visible.“

Since the treatment with SILRES® WH rain and road spray simply bead and drip off the fence. Dust and mud can just be hosed off without a hassle.

Don’t use SILRES® WH on coatings or resin coated plywood

Resin coated plywood boards are water repellent due to their phenolic resin coating. Hence SILRES® WH cannot be absorbed.

Our colleague also painted a self–crafted bench made from Euro pallets with SILRES® WH. It had already been treated with a clear coat that was now well weathered. “I just sanded the bench a bit and then applied SILRES® WH. Now water beads and drips off, but the bench is sticky. I guess, existing coatings should be removed completely before application.” Dirk S. also applied SILRES® WH to the resin coated plywood floor of his car trailer: „Here I saw no effect whatsoever.“ Nonetheless our versatile tester is quite happy with SILRES® WH: „WACKER recommends the product for untreated fences, timber and façades. And after one and a half years I must say that the treated parts of the fence look much better than the untreated segments.“
