WACKER’s continuous business growth in China has now entered a new investment phase. Capital spending at WACKER Greater China is projected to rise by more than 50% in 2021 compared with 2018. Accordingly, procurement spending has also increased significantly. In the next few years, WACKER expects both procurement and capital spending will remain high in China.

WACKER’s theme at its 2021 Greater China Supplier Day was “Continuous Cooperation for Joint Success.” At the event, the company shared its business prospects, targets and expectations with more than 60 representatives from 36 major raw material, equipment and service suppliers. The WACKER Group’s carbon neutrality strategy and digitalization programs were also introduced to event attendees. This year, the best supplier awards went to nine companies, including Sinopec, OOCL Logistics, Anhui Wanwei, FWE Engineering, Qingyang Xinhao, CNI 23, Greif, Siemens and Beijing Fortune Silicon.

Paul Lindblad, President of WACKER Greater China, attended the supplier day event and briefed the company’s commitment to China’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2060. He said, “Continuing our successful and stable growth in China, WACKER is investing in significant new capacities to support our China business. As our customers are increasing their requirements on sustainability, we expect our suppliers to help us jointly reach China’s goals and the goals of our customers.”

“The needs of WACKER’s customers define our requirements for suppliers.” said Dr. Erk Thorsten Heyen, WACKER’s Senior Vice President of Procurement and Logistics who joined the event via video conference. “Over recent years, in addition to price and payment-term competitiveness, we expect our Chinese suppliers to interact with WACKER on digital collaboration platforms to improve efficiency both for WACKER and its suppliers. What’s more, we hope our Chinese suppliers will continue to invest in sustainability, thus paving the way for a win-win partnership with WACKER.”

Cambridge Chang, WACKER Greater China Procurement and Business Service Director, described the company’s new supplier management system. “WACKER Greater China will continue to achieve the goals of the Group’s global procurement and supply chain,” he emphasized, “At the same time, we will also promote our own procurement goals, which are digitalization, competitive commercial conditions, and sustainability assessment of Chinese suppliers.”
