How We Contribute

Examples of our activities relating to the Global Compact

Environmental Protection

We already start to take environmental protection into account when planning new production plants and manufacturing processes. We constantly keep an eye on our products and sites – we measure, monitor and improve our environmental performance and document it in our sustainability report.

Equal Opportunity

WACKER employs people from 65 different nations. We see this as an enrichment and reject all forms of discrimination. We offer initiatives and programs to achieve work-family balance and equal treatment for men and women.

Job Security

We believe it is important to preserve jobs – even during economic downturns or organizational restructuring. In collaboration with employee representatives, we exploit every opportunity here.

Occupational Health and Safety

We encourage health-conscious behavior among our employees and employ technical and organizational measures to ensure their safety. This includes personal protective equipment to safeguard them whenever they deal with hazardous materials.

WACKER Relief Fund

Through this charitable organization, we support projects in Sri Lanka, China, Haiti, Nepal and Pakistan. Within the scope of the WACKER HELP initiative, employees in WACKER Greater China engage in charitable activities, such as promoting education at schools and universities, and aiding medical relief campaigns.

Support for Higher Education

We value university education very highly. In 2006, in partnership with the Technical University of Munich, we founded the Institute of Silicon Chemistry, which is part of the WACKER Chair of Macromolecular Chemistry.

Participating Since 2006

We joined the UN’s Global Compact in 2006 – a further example of WACKER’s voluntary commitments. The initiative’s goal is to steer globalization toward improving the quality of people’s lives all around the world. It seeks to boost collaboration between the United Nations, business and social organizations. The Global Compact is based on ten principles, which address social and environmental standards, anti-corruption and the protection of human rights.
