R&W 2018: WACKER Presents Silane-Modified Polymer for Environmentally-Friendly High-Performance Waterproofing Coatings

Shanghai, May 28, 2018

WACKER will join China Roofing & Waterproofing Expo (R&W 2018) for the first time and will showcase GENIOSIL® WP 1, a silane-modified polymer which is used as a reactive binder for waterproofing formulations. Combining the advantages of polyether and silicone, this product features excellent mechanical as well as waterproofing properties and durability. Moreover, it offers good adhesion to a wide variety of substrates and cures at ambient temperature on contact with moisture. Based on WACKER’s unique alpha-silane technology, GENIOSIL® WP 1 provides sprayable low viscosity formulations. The silane-modified polymer is solvent and tin-free and therefore an ideal binder for environmentally-friendly formulations. In particular, it is suitable for the waterproofing of angular surfaces, such as roofs and slopes. R&W 2018 takes place in Shanghai from May 28 to 30.

Combining advantages of polyether and silicone, GENIOSIL® WP 1 features excellent mechanical and waterproofing properties as well as outstanding durability. Moreover, it has a good adhesion to a wide variety of substrates and cures at ambient temperatures on contact with moisture. Based on WACKER’s unique alpha-silane technology, GENIOSIL® WP 1 provides low viscosity waterproofing formulations with excellent sprayability. The solvent- and tin-free product is an ideal binder for environmentally-friendly formulations and is particularly suitable for the waterproofing of angular surfaces, such as roofs and slopes.

GENIOSIL® WP 1 is a polyether-based silane-terminated polymer with liquid clear appearance. It combines the typical advantages of polyether and silicones, such as high mechanical strength and elasticity as well as outstanding hydrophobicity and weather resistance. The product cures at ambient temperatures in the presence of moisture and a catalyst. Depending on the formulation, adhesion to a wide variety of substrates even without pretreatment can be achieved. Based on WACKER’s unique alpha-silane technology, the product has a very low viscosity (700 mPa.s at 25ºC). The product allows tin-free curing without addition of solvents or plasticizers and therefore offers broader formulation latitude.

GENIOSIL® WP 1 offers various advantages when it comes to liquid waterproofing applications: excellent mechanical properties, a broad adhesion profile, outstanding waterproofing and long lasting durability. The product also provides many other benefits, such as low viscosity, sprayability, airless surfaces and tolerance to moist substrates. The product is also tin-, solvent- and plasticizer-free, which is an additional advantage for users and for the environment.

GENIOSIL® WP 1 can be easily formulated to produce compounds of very different viscosities, suitable for waterproofing of vertical as well as horizontal surfaces, in particularly angular surfaces, such as roofs and slopes. Moreover, heating is not needed during the production of waterproofing coatings with GENIOSIL® WP 1. This significantly reduces the production cost and operation complexity during manufacturing.
