WACKER GREATER CHINA IS HONORED AS A ROLE MODEL OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY WITH THE “MORE THAN A MARKET AWARD”

Out of the 75 applications from German companies all over China, 7 companies finally won the awards based on criteria including relevance, creativity, transferability and sustainability. WACKER Greater China is honored with the “More than a Market Award” for its “WACKER Fujiacun Primary School” project in Sichuan Province. With this project, WACKER helped to restore a school after the Sichuan earthquake in 2008. Since then, the company has been continuously expanding its support: Besides the schoolhouse rebuilding and maintenance, WACKER also launched four long-term programs at the school: the WACKER library since 2010, a sponsorship for needy pupils since 2011, free hot meals since 2012, and a teachers’ assistance program since 2016.

“WACKER’s vision in China is to make an indispensable contribution to the country’s progress and sustainable development,” commented Paul Lindblad, President of WACKER Greater China, “We take on responsibility that extends beyond our business. We do this by helping people in need and promoting education of young people, and we do it in a sustainable way.”

The WACKER School Project is managed by WACKER HELP, an initiative which was founded in 2005 as a platform for WACKER Greater China employees to offer their contributions to the society, especially to support the education of needy children. It is organized and voluntarily managed by the employees of WACKER in China. Further, the project is funded from employees’ donations which are matched by the company with the same amount. Besides the WACKER School project, WACKER HELP also promotes education in other underprivileged regions and for children in need. Since 2005, WACKER Help has donated 17 school libraries and a music classroom throughout China.
