CMEF & ICMD 2017: WACKER PRESENTS SILICONE ELASTOMER FOR MEDICAL BALLOONS
Shanghai, May 15, 2017
WACKER will present ELASTOSIL® R plus 4285/30, a platinum-catalyzed silicone elastomer especially designed for balloon applications in the medical industry, at this year’s CMEF & ICMD (China International Medical Equipment Fair and International Component Manufacturing & Design Show). ELASTOSIL® R plus 4285/30 features high elongation and high tear-resistance during expansion. Thanks to the platinum-catalyzed curing system, it does not only help to improve production efficiency by rapid curing speed and easy mold-release, but also fully meets the requirements of medical regulations. Another WACKER product highlight is the skin-friendly silicone gel adhesive SILPURAN® 2100 for wound care. CMEF & ICMD 2017 takes place in Shanghai from May 15 to 18.
ELASTOSIL® R plus 4285/30 is a platinum-catalyzed transparent solid silicone rubber with a Shore A hardness of 33. With tensile strength of 1234 psi, 1000 percent elongation at break and tear strength of 150 ppi, it features excellent mechanical properties and is extremely suitable for the application in highly expandable medical balloons.
Thanks to the platinum-catalyzed curing system, ELASTOSIL® R plus 4285/30 cures rapidly and enables easy mold release. Therefore, it can significantly improve the production efficiency. Compared to other curing systems, platinum-catalyzed silicone rubber fully meets the requirements of medical regulations, such as USP Class VI, ISO 10993, and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements. ELASTOSIL® R plus 4285/30 is especially suitable for the production of medical balloons, e.g. catheter or uterus operation balloons.
During CMEF & ICMD 2017, WACKER will also present the medical silicone gel series SILPURAN® 2100. Dressings using these soft silicone gels are highly breathable and water-repellent, promoting an optimized healing environment. They are extremely gentle when adhering to the skin, and make changing dressings painless and atraumatic. SILPURAN® 2100 series are ideal for producing modern wound dressings for treating chronic and large-area wounds. They are also suitable for applications as traditional plasters and dressing retention products.
SILPURAN® silicones from WACKER have passed selected tests for biocompatibility according to ISO 10993 and US Pharmacopeia Class VI. They are safe to be used in direct skin applications and where hypo-allergenic skin adhesion is a crucial requirement.
