WACKER honored as most socially responsible company by Chinese Chemical Industry Federation

Shanghai/Beijing, Jan 16, 2017

At the 2016 China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation’s award ceremony held in Beijing yesterday, WACKER Chemicals (China) Co., Ltd. was honored as a “Most Socially Responsible Company” in the Corporate Citizen Role-Model list. This event is organized by China Chemical Industry News under the guidance of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF). By recognizing the industry’s social responsibility role models, this event aims at promoting sustainable development of innovation, environment protection, safety and contributions to society among petrochemical enterprises.

CPCIF is a non-government, non-profit organization consisting of over 300 companies and institutes in addition to local and other associations in the petroleum and chemical industry in China. It is an umbrella organization that provides services and implements certain administrative functions within the industry on a national level. The evaluation indicators for Corporate Citizen Role Models range from corporate governance, employee rights and benefits, environmental protection, production safety, technical innovation and tax contributions to public communication, public welfare, social image and supply chain management. A total of over 20 companies, including state-owned, private and foreign enterprises operating in China, were recognized as “Most Socially Responsible Companies”.

WACKER is a signatory of the Responsible Care® global charter. In China, WACKER was also one of the first 24 international chemical companies to sign the Beijing Manifesto, thereby committing to protect the environment, employees and society beyond legal requirements.

WACKER’s Responsible Care commitment includes publishing a Sustainability Report at regular intervals and organizing Open-to-Public events at production sites every year to facilitate dialogue with stakeholders. Meanwhile, it actively promotes Responsible Care in industry parks where it operates, and organizes process safety training to help peer companies establish similar safety systems. Furthermore, WACKER also introduced advanced German chemical vocational education to Zhangjiagang’s Free Trade Zone, supporting the sustainable development of the industry.

WACKER has been recognized as “Top Employer™” and “Best Human Resource Management (HRM) Companies” repeatedly.

Through “WACKER HELP,” a charity organization sponsored by both WACKER Greater China employees and the company, WACKER helped rebuild and provides long-term support to the Fujia Village School in Sichuan Province. Additionally, the company has donated 17 libraries and one music room to schools in China’s less developed regions.
