C-TOUCH & DISPLAY SHENZHEN 2018: WACKER Presents Silicone Gel for Plastic Adhesion in Optical Bonding

At C-Touch & Display Shenzhen (C-Touch) 2018, WACKER will present the new LUMISIL® 245-GEL UV silicone gel for optical bonding. This product features a high bonding strength and an excellent adhesion to plastic material. Its soft gel structure is ideal for efficient stress relaxation, and therefore can be used for optical bonding in a wide variety of structures, materials and environments, in particular for challenging applications, such as the adhesion of sensitive polarizers and plastic + glass (P+G) components. Other WACKER highlights in C-Touch include LUMISIL® UV, a series of UV curing optically clear silicone resins (OCR), and LUMISIL® 102, a fast thermal-cure silicone OCR. C-Touch 2018 takes place in Shenzhen from November 22 to 24.
Usually, covers of vehicle-mounted panels are made of glass. Doe to increasing safety awareness, overseas markets tend to use more and more plastic materials. However, the adhesion of plastic materials is much more demanding. In order to address the problem, WACKER recently developed LUMISIL® 245-GEL UV which is especially suitable for plastic adhesion. A two-part transparent silicone adhesive that cured by UV condition for optical bonding, the product features low modulus and high strength. Its soft gel structure is ideal for efficient stress relaxation, and therefore can be used for optical bonding in a wide variety of structures, materials and environments. In particular, LUMISIL® 245-GEL UV demonstrates high bonding strength and excellent adhesion to plastic materials. Hence, it is especially suitable for the challenging applications, such as the adhesion of sensitive polarizers and plastic + glass (P+G) components.
At C-Touch 2018, WACKER will also present LUMISIL® UV, a series of UV curing silicone OCRs, and LUMISIL® 102FC, a thermal-cure silicone OCR which can be cured rapidly.
The LUMISIL® UV product series consists of two-component, UV-curing silicone OCRs. High transparency, low shrinkage, low E-modulus and a low dielectric constant – all these properties make LUMISIL® UV suitable for large-sized displays and touch screens for vehicle-mounted navigation and aviation applications. The curing mechanism is activated by the exposure to high energy ultraviolet light without the use of photo initiators and the release of other by-products. The product eliminates side curing effects in the not exposed shadow areas which may impair proper bonding of the component. This not only ensures a reliable boding of the display, but also simplifies the bonding process and enhances production efficiency significantly. The LUMISIL® UV series includes several product grades. Their viscosity varies from 2,000 to 45,000 mPa*s which matches the requirements of all production processes used in the industry.
LUMISIL® 102FC, a two-component, thermal-cure silicone gel, offers high transparency and excellent thermal stability. It also has a low viscosity and offers minimal shrinkage, low hazing and nearly no yellowing. Reliability tests show that the product’s properties barely change, even under severe conditions. The product cures in ten minutes at 65 °C. Due to these advantages, LUMISIL® 102FC fully meets a wide range of display requirements, both for indoor and outdoor use, e.g. portable displays, public information displays, and navigation devices.
