PCHi 2019: WACKER Presents BELSIL® eco Silicone Fluids Made from Non-fossil Raw Materials

Guangzhou, Feb 26, 2019

At PCHi 2019, WACKER will present BELSIL® eco silicone fluids for the first time in China. The product range is solely produced with silicon and certified biomethanol which is exclusively made from renewable raw materials. WACKER is currently the only manufacturer in the world offering this kind of product. Other WACKER highlights during the show include BELSIL® ADM 8600E, a silicone microemulsion with excellent conditioning effects, and BELSIL® EG 7, a new silicone elastomer gel that can be used in various formulations. PCHi 2019 takes place in Guangzhou from March 26 to 28.

WACKER is presenting its new BELSIL® eco range at PCHi 2019. The designation “eco” means that the company only uses biomethanol from renewable raw materials in the production of its silicone fluids for cosmetic applications known by the BELSIL® brand. To meet the rising demand for cosmetic products which are made from raw materials that conserve our natural resources, WACKER has developed the new BELSIL® eco range. The designation “eco” means that the company only uses silicon and biomethanol, a renewable raw material, in the production of its silicone fluids for cosmetic applications known by the brand name BELSIL®. The certified biomethannol is produced exclusively from plant residue such as straw or grass cuttings. WACKER is currently the only manufacturer in the world offering this kind of product.

The BELSIL® eco range currently comprises six silicone fluids. They are linear, unmodified polydimethylsiloxanes (dimethicones), which are distinguished by their low surface tension and good spreading properties. These products cover a particularly crucial viscosity range in cosmetics between 5 and 60,000 centistokes (mm2/s) and are therefore suitable for the formulation of moisturizing creams, lotions, sunscreens, shampoos, conditioners and other cosmetic preparations.

BELSIL® EG 7, a new silicone elastomer gel, can be used in various formulations, featuring excellent film-forming, thixotropic performance, which provides a velvety skin feel. In cosmetic products, such as foundations and lip glosses, the product yields excellent mattifying effects. (Photo: WACKER).

WACKER uses both petroleum-derived methanol and biomethanol. A certified mass balance procedure helps to calculate and determine the share of products sourced from biomethanol. As a result, WACKER can ensure that all BELSIL® eco products are manufactured from 100 percent plant-based biomethanol and therefore resource saving raw materials. The procedure is certified according to the TÜV SÜD Standard CMS 71 and is checked every year by external evaluators.

Another WACKER highlight during PCHi 2019 is BELSIL® ADM 8600 E, a nonionic microemulsion of amodimethicone. Trimethylsiloxysilicate, a unique ingredient is added to the product to make sure the active substance in it can deposit at the hair surface, forming a lasting breathable film which protects the hair cuticle and effectively repairs hair damaged by perming and dyeing. BELSIL® ADM 8600 E significantly reduces dry and wet combing forces as well as hair static. It also provides a silky touch to the hair and can slow down color fading after dyeing. BELSIL® ADM 8600 E is especially suitable for hair care products for repair of strongly damaged hair and for products used after dyeing. It can be formulated in shampoos, rinse-off conditioners and hair masks, as well as leave-on conditioners, pump sprays and other styling products.

In addition, WACKER will also showcase BELSIL® EG 7, a new silicone elastomer gel. Featuring excellent film-forming, thixotropic performance, the product can be used in various formulations. BELSIL® EG 7 is very easy to spread and delivers non-greasy, velvety skin feel without balling. A low molecular dimethicone as solvent will form a soft, non-tacky and permeable film on the skin to provide a long-lasting moisture feel. In addition to its application in skin care products, BELSIL® EG 7 can also be applied in cosmetic products such as foundations and lip glosses, where it provides excellent mattifying effects.
