In addition to emphasizing sustainable resource management, companies are also placing increasing value on ethical and social business practices. After a successful social responsibility audit of the Adrian site in the US, WACKER has made the results available in the Sedex database for interested customers. Sedex (the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange) is an online platform disclosing a company’s social and ethics processes all along the supply chain.
Proceeding according to the SMETA (Sedex Members’ Ethical Trade Audit) process, the auditors investigated issues such as working conditions, occupational safety and health, environmental management and corporate ethics at the Wacker Chemical Corporation in Adrian, Michigan (US), in December 2017.
The “four-pillar” audit, which also includes interviews with employees, did not identify any departures from required standards. Auditors reserved special praise for the company’s environmental protection guidelines and programs, as well as for the site’s exemplary social contributions, which take the form of programs benefiting the surrounding community.
With the completion of the Adrian audit, WACKER has now had another important site for the consumer goods industry inspected. Prior to this, WACKER had put its ethical and social standards to the SMETA test in Germany, China, Brazil and India.
