Language Learning with the Frog Prince

Halle, Jun 06, 2017

Wacker Biotech GmbH has donated €5,000 to promote language learning at the “Froschkönig” (Frog Prince) day-care center in Halle. Many young children at the center, which is located in a deprived area, come from socially disadvantaged families. Social hardship is seen not only in the lack of money for lunchtime and for clothes, but also in the children’s poor language skills.

Dr. Thomas Maier handed over the donation with WACKER teddy bears. He was impressed by the commitment and wealth of ideas of the “Froschkönig” teachers in Halle as they work on creating a place for children to learn and to grow up.

Around a quarter of the children have to learn German as a foreign language. That is why the day-care center focuses on teaching language skills relevant to everyday life. It is a challenging task for the center’s teachers. Advanced training seminars help them prepare for meeting the children’s needs effectively and for working together with parents.

WACKER’s donation will contribute to financing seminars on “developing language skills in particularly challenging circumstances”. In addition, it will help finance training activities for staff and field trips for the children, and enable a new spatial concept to be implemented at the center, so that the children have safe haven areas, for example.
