Businesses for a Cosmopolitan Saxony

Mar 02, 2017

WACKER has joined the “Businesses for a Cosmopolitan Saxony” association to take a stand against xenophobia. Member companies become part of a network declaring their commitment to a spirit of cosmopolitanism and internationalism in Saxony. They demonstrate social responsibility and stand up for their values in public and in their dealings with customers and their employees.

“We view human diversity as an enrichment,” said site manager Gerd Kunkel. “It is part and parcel of the company culture at our site.” People who interact with foreign colleagues on a daily basis harbor no prejudice, Kunkel added. “Some of the staff at our site have built and started-up plants in China or America, side-by-side with their international colleagues,” explained the site manager.

Kunkel feels it is important for trainees at the Nunchritz plant to get used to this culture from the word go: “We have introduced a program at the plant with appealing workshops for all new trainees. They learn about democracy, the WACKER Code of Conduct and freedom of speech. The workshops raise awareness about problems and are interactive without being pedantic. At the end of their training, a refresher course will be offered to these freshly qualified young people before they join the workforce.”

WACKER does business across the globe and employs staff from 69 countries. Employees with international roots are fully integrated at the Nünchritz plant in Saxony. They occupy positions on all levels: from skilled laborers to managerial employees.
