Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Home to our original mRNA Center of Excellence, the Amsterdam facility provides capabilities for developing RNA-based processes and GMP manufacturing of customized RNA processes while also specializing in contract manufacturing of biopharmaceutical proteins, vaccines and live microbial products. The site has a 250 L stirred single-use bioreactor and 100 L, 250 L and 1500 L stainless-steel fermenters for GMP production, plus 3.7-20 L glass stirred single-use fermenters in the bioprocess development lab.
Halle an der Saale, Germany
Our Halle facility is located on the Weinberg campus, one of Europe's leading life sciences hubs. Halle has years of experience and expertise in the production of recombinant proteins and is Wacker Biotech’s competence center for in vitro protein refolding. It has a 1500 L stainless steel stirred fermenter for GMP production plus several single-use fermenters in bioprocess development at 6.6 L, 15 L and 150 L scales. The site collaborates with the Halle TGZ (technology and startup center) and the many universities, companies, and institutes that innovate at the Weinberg Campus.
The Halle site is now home to a second facility, a high-end, dedicated mRNA competence center that opened in June 2024. The plant consists of four independent GMP lines for in vitro transcription (2 x 30 L and 2 x 3 L) with high production volume and state-of-the-art process design capabilities, plus extensive in-house analytics. Both T-mixing and microfluidics are available for lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation.
Jena, Germany
Our original, flagship site, Jena is situated on the Beutenberg science campus close to Friedrich Schiller University and various scientific research institutes. It specializes in the contract manufacturing of recombinant proteins and pharmaceutical actives for clinical testing and the commercial market. It has 21 L and 350 L stainless steel fermenters for GMP production plus 15 L and 42 L fermenters for bioprocess development.
San Diego, California, USA
Our San Diego facility specializes in pDNA production and offers extensive process development services, while also offering RNA and protein production. For GMP production, it has a 43 L flex-scale single-use bioreactor and a 650 L stainless steel fermenter. Bioprocess development scales range from 1 L to 7 L glass and a 41 L stainless steel fermenter. Optimized upstream and downstream capabilities include scalable continuous cell lysis.
