WACKER Supports War Victims in Ukraine with €100,000 and Calls on Employees to Donate

“We are deeply shocked by the images and news from Ukraine over the last few days,” explained Angela Wörl, member of the Executive Board and Personnel Director at Wacker Chemie AG. “With this campaign, we want to make a contribution to alleviate the initial suffering of the people in the war zones.”

The German Red Cross (DRK) has already been working intensively with the Ukrainian Red Cross since the Crimean crisis in 2014. Donations for the emergency aid campaign will therefore go to the DRK’s Ukrainian counterpart. The DRK also organizes aid transports to Lublin in Poland, from where aid supplies such as medicine and food are forwarded. Since 2017, there has also been a DRK aid program for internally displaced persons due to the conflict in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

“Our colleagues at sites across the Group are shocked by what is happening in Ukraine and deeply deplore the war,” said Eduard-Harald Klein, Chairman of the Group Employee Council, summing up the current feeling at WACKER.

“Let us all pitch in. WACKER will match employee donations to its relief fund, which will pass the money on to the German Red Cross. In this way, we can demonstrate our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and help alleviate their suffering,” he added.

“WACKER is an international company where employees from all over the world work together. We are in contact with our colleagues in Ukraine and Russia. Our thoughts are with them and with all those affected family members of our employees worldwide,” Executive Board member Angela Wörl continued.

By having employees’ donations matched by the company, WACKER HILFSFONDS has already generously helped victims of natural disasters in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Haiti, as well as during the Ahr Valley floods of 2021. “In this emergency, we at WACKER – both the company and the workforce – want to make a joint contribution,” she concluded.

The WACKER Relief Fund (WACKER HILFSFONDS) has been providing support to victims of natural disasters and helping to rebuild devastated regions since 2005. The non-profit foundation sponsors projects in China, Haiti, Nepal and Pakistan, among others. The relief fund focuses on children and young people by rebuilding and permanently supporting schools and kindergartens.
