Interview with Martina – What Was it Like?
Martina studied molecular science at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, after which she obtained her Ph.D. from the Institute of Glass and Ceramics within the Department of Materials Sciences and Engineering.
What I thought was most exciting about the trainee program was the opportunity to learn about the different disciplines in chemistry and the career options open to chemists. In addition to R&D and application technology, I also got an in-depth look at marketing and procurement. Plus, I'd built up a really broad network throughout the entire company in just a short period of time.
One highlight for me was the variety of projects that I had a chance to support during my trainee period, and another was getting to know the peoples who made the trainee program special. Regular discussions with my trainee mentor – an experienced manager – were another personal highlight.

After the trainee program, I accepted a position in 2021 as a project manager in Logistics, where I was able to support and advance some really interesting projects in shipping. In late 2023 I transferred to SILICONES, where I've since been leading a applications lab as a technical manager for automotive.
In just a short time, the trainee program helped familiarize me with a lot of areas and understand how they’re connected. The key benefit for me – and it continues to help me – has been the network I was able to develop at the time.
