Expertise

Expertise for simpler hard-soft bonding

Hard-soft components for sensitive applications call for reliable bonding, efficient processing and materials that fit smoothly into existing production setups. With ELASTOSIL® LR 5471, WACKER brings its silicone expertise to a liquid silicone rubber that combines two key properties: self-adhesion and non-post-cure processing.

This can help simplify manufacturing by reducing additional process steps such as primer application and post-treatment, making it a strong fit for white goods as well as selected baby care and medical device applications.

Our experts are available for meetings at Fakuma in hall A6, booth A6-6212.

Efficiency

Simplifying automated seal assembly

Automotive connector seals and sealing elements need to deliver reliable performance while fitting efficiently into automated production. For manufacturers, the real challenge is to make assembly smoother without compromising resistance to demanding cooling media. That is where ELASTOSIL® LR 3822 comes in: its oil-exuding properties help enable easier machine assembly, while excellent coolant resistance makes it a strong fit for EV traction battery cooling applications.

Let’s discuss at Fakuma how to simplify processing and assembly for your application!

As markets evolve, new opportunities arise: from meeting environmental standards to driving sustainability and standing out in a competitive landscape. Adapting to these trends means staying ahead – and reflecting on what matters. Discover how our technological expertise, sustainable solutions, and collaborative approach will help you turn your silicone business into a lasting success story.

Technology

Revolutionizing composite insulator manufacturing

With our latest development in high-voltage engineering POWERSIL® 1900 A/B we are pushing the boundaries in the production of large-scale insulators. The special high-consistency silicone rubber allows manufacturers to implement the extrusion molding process to produce high-precision composite insulators at a comparatively low cost.

Innovation

How can we redefine your design freedom?

Next-generation ELASTOSIL® Film LSR allows for greater thickness, tighter tolerances and higher mechanical performance whenever purity, elasticity and precision are needed. This enables new designs and advanced engineering with customizable ultra-precise films made from liquid silicone rubber

Expertise

Looking to optimize your silicone products and processes? Our Process Technology Center Burghausen is here for you

Are you seeking advice and support when processing LSR and HCR materials? Our experts at the Process Technology Center Burghausen are here to help you with guidance and hands-on support to optimize your existing applications, processes, and formulations.

Reflect on what matters:
Sustainability

How can we make your value chain more sustainable?

With our ELASTOSIL® eco concept, we offer silicone rubber grades whereby the relative mass of fossil-based raw materials is replaced by corresponding amounts of bio-based methanol from sustainable sources according to the mass balance approach.

Collaboration

How you can benefit from our collaborative approach?

Together with our customers and market partners, we are continually working on optimizing product characteristics to make end products better and our customers’ production processes more efficient. Take a look at our recent cases:

Case #1:
A unique partnership with a strong commitment

A Munich success story enters a new chapter. The core element of air up®’s innovative drinking bottle is made from our liquid silicone rubber. What makes this product so special? Of course, it is its functionality and the technology behind it. But just as important is the close cooperation between all partners involved in this project – and the shared commitment to continually optimizing the product’s characteristics to make the end product even better.

Case #2:
Sustainable freshness with a flick of the wrist

Healthy lemon juice whenever you want it? A commercially available silicone lemon juicer promises just that. We made it possible: in cooperation with our partners Nexus Elastomer Systems and ENGEL AUSTRIA, we produced the lemon juicer live at our booth at the K 2022 International Trade Fair. This handy kitchen utensil introduced attendees to our mass-balanced eco silicones, so that they could see for themselves how highly automated injection molding can be used for processing addition-curing solid silicone rubber grades.

Case #3:
Injection molding with non-postcuring ELASTOSIL® LR 5040 – reuse beats single use

Parts made from liquid silicone rubber (LSR) must be postcured if they are intended for sensitive applications such as babycare products, food contact, and medical technology. One of LSR’s key advantages is that it can be mass-produced in a highly precise, automated injection-molding process.

At the K 2019 International Trade Show, we unveiled our non-postcuring liquid silicone rubber ELASTOSIL® LR 5040 with an impressive live demonstration at our booth: an injection-molding machine produced silicone lids that visitors could use for their reusable coffee cups straight away. The demonstration line was run in conjunction with our partners KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH, ACH Solution GmbH and AVR Tech Innovations GmbH.

Case #4:
A medium for “sil-iconic" art

The internationally renowned weaving artist Monika Fioreschy replaced the classic wool thread on her loom with silicone tubes made of WACKER solid silicone rubber more than 30 years ago. By experimenting with this unusual material, she found new ways of expressing her art of weaving and transformed conventional picture weaving in a sensational way. Discover her innovative art forms “Transfusion silicones” and “Sil-Icons”, for which we offer the perfect material.
