Pilsen Site Named Sustainability Ambassador 2020
Over 30 WACKER teams submitted their projects in a bid for the Sustainability Ambassador 2020 title. The Pilsen site won the competition with a broad program of activities focusing on avoiding waste, saving water, using renewable energy and regreening. The Czech team initiated this sustainability project during the Group’s 2020 Sustainability Week, which was held as a virtual congress for the first time in 2020.
Sustainability Week saw teams around the world sharing their ideas on UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 13 “Climate Action.” Teams from eleven countries and three continents submitted over thirty ideas from which the Sustainability Council selected the 2020 Sustainability Ambassador.

The project pitches were evaluated according to criteria such as originality, reach, continuity, impact on society and the environment, learning curve for employees and economic contribution. The Pilsen team, newcomers to Sustainability Week, won over the judges with their seven-point action program.
WACKER’s third global Sustainability Week was held in October. The Corporate Sustainability team uses the annual initiative to instigate groupwide activities that promote sustainable development. The activity week encourages employees to practice sustainability, both at work and at home.
Aimed at encouraging contributions addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals 12 and 17, the motto planned for the Sustainability Week to be held in October 2021 is the circular economy. The fourth Sustainability Week will also be a virtual congress inviting colleagues across the globe to share their ideas. Internal experts will offer a varied program highlighting how they drive forward the many facets of the sustainability strategy SustainaBalance®. Discussions and an interactive tradeshow on climate protection, sustainable products and research, as well as responsible management of suppliers and other topics will round off the program.
