WACKER Relief Fund Launches Donation Appeal to Aid Earthquake Victims in Turkey and Syria

Munich, Feb 20, 2023

Following the catastrophic earthquake, WACKER wants to support survivors suffering desperate need in Turkey and Syria. To this end, the WACKER Relief Fund has launched a donation campaign for earthquake victims.

“We are deeply shocked by the photos and news reports from the earthquake region in recent days,” said Angela Wörl, Executive Board member and Personnel Director of Wacker Chemie AG. “With this action we want to help alleviate the suffering of the people.”

“Our colleagues at the sites in the Group are devastated by the extent of the disaster,” says Barbara Kraller, who chairs the Group Employee Council for Wacker Chemie AG. “Let us reach out together and offer a helping hand. Your donations to the WACKER Relief Fund, which the company will match, will help provide emergency aid. We are also sending a signal of solidarity to colleagues who have loved ones in the disaster region.”

The donations go to Aktion Deutschland Hilft, an association of renowned German aid organizations. Twenty aid organizations from Aktion Deutschland Hilft are providing humanitarian aid to survivors in Turkey and Syria.

Wacker Chemie AG will double all donations made by active employees up to May 5, 2023. For tax and organizational reasons, Wacker Chemical Corporation in the USA is joining the campaign with its own appeal for donations.

Since it was founded in 2005, the WACKER Relief Fund has helped victims of natural disasters in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Haiti, as well as during the Ahr Valley floods of 2021, and is currently providing aid for war victims in Ukraine. “And now in the dire emergency situation afflicting Turkey and Syria, we at WACKER – the company and workforce alike – want to make a joint contribution,” emphasizes Angela Wörl.

The WACKER Relief Fund finances its running projects, especially schools in disaster areas, with its cent-donation program. All active employees in Germany can contribute toward securing this funding on a long-term basis by agreeing to have their monthly salaries rounded down to the nearest euro. “The difference in cents is then donated to the WACKER Relief Fund. This way, we can achieve great things together with regular small contributions,” emphasizes Mirko Kappelhoff, WACKER Relief Fund Executive Board member. On behalf of the Board, he expressly thanks all those whose donations help pave the way to a better future for people affected by natural disasters.
