Our joint venture Wacker Asahikasei Silicone Co., Ltd. (AWS) – founded in 1999 between Wacker Chemie AG and Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation – supplies primarily our Japanese customers with silicone rubber products for a wide variety of applications.
The plants in Tsukuba are state-of-the-art and produce silicone emulsions and silicone rubber grades – HTV (high-temperature-vulcanizing), RTV (room-temperature-vulcanizing) and LSR (liquid silicone rubber). The site also houses a technical center for silicone coatings. At the Airbag Competence Center of Excellence in Silicones (ACES), we help customers and their suppliers from the airbag sector to develop high-performance silicone coatings for airbags and carry out materials testing on site.
Since spring 2017, Tsukuba also boasts a branch of the WACKER ACADEMY. The site now combines not only production, R&D and application technology, but also a training center for WACKER silicones, all under one roof. The seminar program caters specifically to the sophisticated demands of our Japanese customers and is tailored to meet individual requirements. The focus is on specialty silicones used, for example, for coating technical textiles and as optical lenses in LEDs.
