Silicone Resins for More Battery Safety

Novel EV battery safety concepts rely on silicone resins. Silicone-resin-based fiber composites exhibit an unprecedented degree of fire resistance combined with thermal insulation. In the event of fire, they interact with fillers and fibers to form ceramic materials. By using the novel fiber composites as a battery enclosure or heat shield the passenger cabin can be protected from high temperatures caused by a thermal runaway.

Batteries and especially pouch cell modules are high-volume products. Our gap fillers can be applied quickly yet gently by high volume dispensing or alternatively by injection. The automotive industry uses it to summarize the requirements that have to be met by suppliers’ company structures and quality-management systems.
