Personal Care Silicones in personal care products and their impact to the environment

Webinar | Customers & Distributors

Description

Silicones are fascinating polymers that we use in our everyday life. For personal care products and cosmetic formulations silicones are important ingredients, which are highly efficient, multifunctional and give cosmetic products unique combinations of properties. In addition, silicones are easy to process and therefore facilitate formulation development and scale-up efforts.

Despite the many positive properties of silicones, the product class is currently subject of controversial debate. Particular attention is paid to possible negative effects on the environment.

In this webinar we will report about recent studies sponsored by the industry association Global Silicones Council (GSC). Several scientific publications have significantly increased our understanding, how silicone polymers degrade in the environment. In the cause of predominantly abiotic degradation mechanism, silicones are ultimately converted to CO2, SiO2 and carbon dioxide.

We also will explain, how WACKER keeps working on the reduction of the carbon footprint of our silicone production with the clear target to enable a climate neutral siloxane production by 2045.

Finally, we will briefly explain the concept behind our BELSIL® eco products. Using these special cosmetics ingredients, formulators can already now use sustainably produced silicones. Our BELSIL® eco products can help to formulate effective and sustainable cosmetics, even when a high Natural Origin Index (according to ISO 16128) is required.
