Munich is the third-largest city in Germany, with a population of over 1.5 million. The celebrated capital of Bavaria manages to blend its homey, down-to-earth charm with the flair of a modern metropolis. And if you’d like a break from the bustle of a global city, the countryside and the mountains are never far away.

While Munich might not have the hip reputation that Berlin enjoys, it in no way takes a back seat to the nation’s capital. Hipsters and culture enthusiasts alike are sure to get their money’s worth in Munich. And of course you can also spend some unspectacular time just sitting in a café for a while, watching the world go by.

The metropolis on the Isar River is lavish with its opportunities for leisurely shopping. Top international brands line the magnificent shopping mile of Maximilianstraße, while local retailers offer unique handiwork from Munich’s fashion and culinary artisans. Many businesses support sustainable shopping and nighttime shopping.

Raising a family in a big city? Not a problem in Munich. The city is committed to families, offering extensive programs and active support in every area of family life. Plus, countless day-trip destinations, parks and recreational facilities in and around Munich provide inviting opportunities for spending family time together.

Located directly on the border with Austria, approximately 100 km east of Munich and around 50 km north of Salzburg, Burghausen is home to some 18,000 people. The key landmark of this small town on the Salzach River is Burghausen Castle, which, at 1051 meters, is the longest castle in the world. In addition to its excellent infrastructure, Burghausen also offers countless options for relaxing or staying active during your free time.

Burghausen has something to offer all year round. Enjoy regional and international cuisine, socialize in rustic pubs or dance the night away in night clubs – the town’s lively gastronomic scene has something for everyone’s tastes. Other cultural offerings include movies, concerts, theater, museums and more.

From day care through high school, Burghausen offers a wide range of child-care and educational opportunities. Outreach projects for children and teens – bolstered by countless clubs – provide attractive programs and activities during the school year and on breaks.

The area surrounding Burghausen provides a spectacular landscape for running, hiking and bicycling. Athletic clubs in the town offer a broad range of opportunities for all ages and fitness levels – from basketball, soccer or track and field, all the way up to windsurfing. And it goes without saying that the area is ideal for winter sports.
Nünchritz
The Nünchritz site is located on the east bank of the Elbe along the Leipzig-Riesa-Dresden rail line. Its roughly 1,500 employees make WACKER the largest chemical-industry employer in Saxony.
Additional information on the town of Nünchritz is available at www.nuenchritz.de.

The roughly 5,500 residents of Nünchritz live in eleven districts. Nestled in Saxony’s idyllic wine country, this former fishing village on the Elbe looks back on over 700 years of history. Officially recognized as a recreation area, the Diesbar-Seußlitz district near the plant is notable for its vineyards, tourism, historic farms and castle. Trains departing the Nünchritz station provide a quick link to high-speed rail connections in Riesa, Dresden and Leipzig, and to the historical city of Meißen, known for its world-famous Dresden China.

Expansive nature preserves are a major attraction in the area. Rustic inns, vineyards and castle cafés in and around Nünchritz will make you want to linger. And so will the many traditional, centuries-old restaurants offering the finest cuisine from both Saxony and the world – all at modest, small-town prices. With its large number of clubs and associations, Nünchritz has a busy festival calendar all year-round, and neighbors new and old are equally welcome to join in the fun.

From day care through high school, Nünchritz offers a wide range of child-care and educational opportunities. In addition to the attractive vocational training opportunities that WACKER provides in Nünchritz, young people can also pursue their futures at traditional college preparatory schools in surrounding cities, or at colleges and universities that are just a train ride away in Dresden, Freiberg or Leipzig.

Nünchritz is located right on the Elbe bikeway, which invites riders to explore a 1,270 km route from the North Sea to Prague to the Krkonoše Mountains. Athletics are a major pastime in Nünchritz itself, with something for everyone, regardless of your age or level of fitness. Here you can participate in dragon boating, go running with your colleagues from the plant running group, you can fish, go horseback riding, dance, sing or play in an ensemble – or you can of course enjoy volleyball, swimming, gymnastics and soccer, or you can do something good for your back.
